Dünya kaynakların sürekliliğinin sağlanması ve etkili kullanılması gerekliliği sürdürülebilir kalkınma fikrinin doğmasına neden olmuştur. Doğal kaynakların aşırı ve bilinçsiz kullanımı karşısında bu kaynakların sürdürülebilir kullanımına yönelik olası çözümler ve planlamalar son yıllarda daha çok tartışılmaya başlanmıştır. Bu doğrultuda ortaya çıkan sürdürülebilirliğin literatürde, devam etme, var etme ve sürdürme gibi anlamlarda kullanıldığı dikkati çekmektedir. Sürdürülebilir kalkınma ise en genel tanımıyla gelecek nesillerin hayatta kalma haklarının ellerinden almadan günümüz insanlığının gereksinimlerini karşılayabilme olarak ifade edilmektedir. Bu içeriğiyle sürdürülebilirlik ve sürdürülebilir kalkınma birçok bilim dalının ilgi alanına girdiği gibi doğal ve beşeri unsurlar arasındaki ilişkiyi inceleyen coğrafyanın da konuları arasında yer almaktadır. Araştırmada sürdürülebilir kalkınma amaçları ile coğrafya eğitiminin amaçları arasındaki ilişki ortaya konulmuştur. Bu kapsamda araştırmada üç alt soruya da cevap aranmıştır. Bunlar; Sürdürülebilir kalkınma konusunun son yıllarda daha çok gündeme gelmesinin nedenleri nelerdir, Coğrafya eğitimin genel amaçları ile sürdürülebilir kalkınma amaçları arasında nasıl bir ilişki vardır, Sürdürülebilir kalkınma amaçlarının gerçekleşmesinde coğrafya eğitiminin yeri ve rolü nedir? Araştırmada belirtilen hususlar dahilinde eğitimcilere, öğretim programının hazırlanmasından sorumlu kişilere, eğitim planlamacılarına ve akademisyenlere konu hakkında açılım sağlanması amaçlanmıştır. Ayrıca çalışmada analiz ve sentez yolu ile sürdürülebilir kalkınma amaçlarına ulaşılabilmesi için coğrafya eğitimi bağlamında neler yapılabileceği hakkında önerilere de yer verilmektedir. Belirtilenlerden hareketle çalışmada sürdürülebilirlik ve sürdürülebilir kalkınma konusuna yönelik planlama yapma, problem çözme ve karar verme süreçlerinde etkin bir coğrafya eğitiminin önemi ve gereği üzerinde durulmuştur. Bu kapsamda araştırma, sürdürülebilir kalkınma-sürdürülebilir kalkınma amaçları ve coğrafya eğitimi ilişkisini coğrafi bakış açısı ile ortaya koymaktadır. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılarak sürdürülebilirlik ile coğrafya eğitimi amaçları ilişkisi irdelenmiştir. Sonuç olarak sürdürülebilir kalkınma amaçları ile coğrafya eğitimi arasındaki yakın ilişkiye bir kez daha dikkat çekilmiştir.

The necessity of ensuring the continuity and effective use of World resources has led to the emergence of the idea of ??sustainable development. In the face of excessive and unconscious use of natural resources, possible solutions and plannings for the sustainable use of these resources have started to be more discussed in recent years. It is noteworthy that sustainability emerged in this direction in the literature has been used in the meanings of continuation, existence and pursuance. Sustainable development, in its most general definition, is expressed as meeting the needs of today's humanity without compromising the survival rights of future generations. As sustainability and sustainable development with this content are in the field of interest of many disciplines, these are also among the topics of geography, which examines the relationship between natural and human elements. In the research, the relationship between the goals of sustainable development and the goals of geography education is studied. In this context, answers to three sub-questions is also examined in the study. These are; What are the reasons that issue of sustainable development has come to the fore more in recent years, What is the relationship between the general goals of geography education and sustainable development goals, What is the place and role of geography education in the achievement of sustainable development goals? Within the scope of the issues specified in the research, it is aimed to provide an expansion about the subject to educators, people responsible for the preparation of the curriculum, education planners and academicians. In addition, the study also includes suggestions about what can be done in the context of geography education in order to achieve sustainable development goals through analysis and synthesis. Therefore, in this research, the importance and necessity of an effective geography education in the processes of planning, problem solving and decision-making processes regarding the sustainability and sustainable development is emphasized. In this context, the research reveals the relationship between sustainable development-sustainable development goals and geography education from a geographical perspective. In the research, the relationship between sustainability and the aims of geography education is studied by using the qualitative research method. As a result, the close relationship between the sustainable development goals and the geography education is once again emphasized.
