Abstract

ANALYZING COMMON THEMES IN AŞK SANATI, SAMANYOLU AND AŞK
Throughout the history, love, as a theme, has always been part of literature and recreated through different authors. In Elif Şafak’s Aşk, Kerime Nadir’s Samanyolu and Ovidius’s Aşk Sanatı, “love,”as a theme, connects the works through similar sub themes. Analyzing three works via locating love at the center of the reading process brings light to find out common sub themes; alternation, patience and risk that acts like a bridge among the three works. While Nadir adddresses the reader from the Republican period, Şafak addresses from 21st century while putting “love” at the center of her text. Parallel to Nadir’s and Şafak’s discourse, Ovidius Naso builds a univerasal discourse that builds up Nadir’s and Şafak’s works like an inner voice. From this perspective, the comparative analysis of the three authors, who addresses their readers from different historical periods, gives way to reveal that the three works are connected to each other through common themes.
