Abstract

THE EFFECT OF OCCUPATIONAL COMMITMENT TO EMPLOYEES’ WHISTLEBLOWING ATTITUDES
High occupational commitment indicates relatively positive attitudes of people to an occupation. A person who has high occupational commitment also has high ethical sensitivity. In this research occupational commitment of 369 nurses evaluated according to “affective”, “continuance” and “normative” occupational commitment concept. Furthermore, effect of nurses’ occupational level on internal-external whistleblowing and silence attitudes is tested. Consequently, results indicated that nurses’ affective occupational commitment is relatively higher than other occupational commitments. On the other hand, analysis of nurses' whistleblowing attitudes reveals that internal whistleblowing is more common. Additionally, statistically significant difference found on external whistleblowing attitudes between nurses who have more affective committed to an occupation and others. Another notable result discloses that there is a statistically significant difference in internal whistleblowing attitudes between nurses have effectively occupational commitment and others. Finally, provided that affective occupational commitment is low external whistleblowing attitudes can be comparably negative. Besides, results show that high affective occupational commitment also causes positive internal whistleblowing attitudes.
