Abstract

HOMESICKNESS IN LOVE WITH THE POETRY NURŞAH
Being absence from home is described as being away from homeland, foreigness, strangeness in dictionaries. Turks have continued nomadic life-style since their existence throughout history till today. This life style has formed their communication tools in both Turkish literature and Turkish culture. We generally come across missing and absence concepts in Turkish literature works especially in folk songs, folktales, Turkish poem etc. It is possible consider being absence concept in two aspects in folk poetry. First of these is the perception of being absence which means being away from homeland. Due to walking around from city to city, for minstrels their homeland is always a place they long for. Being absence contept is also one of the most frequently used in minstrel literature. Minstrel walks around for both their art, fame and also living. Being absence period begins for the minstrel after being away from his homeland and lover. Minstrels describe being absence as cruel absence, another’s house, stranger, dandy absence, omani absence, enemy, hangman etc. When we consider adjectives that minstrels use describing absence, we see that the missing period starts for everyone when they become distanced from their homelands. The one in a foreign land longs for his homeland and suffer the difficulties of being a stranger. Minstrels are the man of people and they perform their works relevant to reality. Minstrels use the language of their homeland’s geography and culture in their works. The one who is abroad expects new from his homeland, lover and family. When we analyze the minstrels, we see that they ask for news from mountains, lakes, rains etc. Beside they send words to their lovers via these natural heritages. Also we see that when minstrels are kept unaware of their lovers, they complain these natural heritages. The other approach in Turkish folk poetry is suffictic being absence concept. In suffistic conception , world is perceived as absence from home. Death means end of the being absence from home for sufis who devotes themselves to divine love and with this end, sufi gets dispose of this strangeness. In the process from the tradition until today, we see that Turkish society has a patriarchal culture regarding to the family structure. This has led different task to be given to women and men. Considering the anthropological structure of men and women, even though perception of the concept in men and women has common points, we cannot talk about an exact similarity. The homesickness for men is a time apart from his house, homeland, mother, father, wife, children and beloved one. However, the homesickness for men is a time apart from her homeland, family, beloved one and sons and to be away from house, bride. A mother, who sends off her son to military, accepts him as away from home. A woman, who laments for the dead of her husband or son, perceives the death as homesickness. Here it is a religious-mystical acceptance and approach. In other words, this homesickness is a homesickness which will last till her meet with her son, husband or beloved one. One of today's minstrels, Minstrel Nurşah is one of the minstrels alive in Eskişehir. Minstrel Nurşah was married at an early age and settled into the village of her husband by leaving her village of birth because of the marriage. The distress of her separation by marrying because of marriage and the difficulties of homesickness has reflected in the poetry of Minstrel Nurşah. However, the homesickness perception of Nursah is a quite different from other minstrels since she is a woman. Regarding to poems of Minstrel Nurşah, Nurşah also describes being bride, separate from children and beloved one as homesickness. The father home is homeland for her, a loneliness begins for a girl leaving the father home as bride, bride has a number of difficulties in adopting her new family, environment and home; the separation is synonymous with homeland for parents sending off their son to military. While the parents take pride in sending off their son to military, they feel deeply the concern and fear of not seeing him again on the other hand. A human apart from homeland and beloved ones becomes sad, cries, so the homesickness is the synonymous with tears at the same time. We see that Minstrel Nurşah talks about the difficulties of homesickness, the missing for those stayed in homeland and hope for the meeting time in her poems with homesickness theme. When the word "homesickness" is said, a pain or sadness is felt in the hearth. The homesickness is the separation from the homeland, beloved one, means the loneliness, strangeness and fear. The one leaving his homeland and beloved one is filled with apprehension. In other words, the homesickness is the missing for those stayed in homeland, means the hope for the meeting day, the waiting for news coming from them. The one being far from home waits the day when he comes back to homeland, lives with the hope for meeting with beloved ones. A large part of the minstrels expostulate on homesickness and blame on fate in their poems due to their difficulties and distress alone away from homeland. In the Minstrel poem, the homesickness theme confronts to us as a common theme indwelled by all Minstrel. Minstrels leaving the homeland by getting his stringed instrument to perform his art have expressed their difficulties encountered and emotions they feel in their poems. In their poems Minstrels leaving the homeland has told of love, miss, sick for their beloved the fear of not to coming back and the fact that they could not find them.
