Abstract

VİEW TO THE CHİLD EVALUATİON TOOL

The aim of this study is to revise, the Beliefs about children Assessment Inventory, developed by Kunt and Avcı (2018) to determine adults' beliefs and perspectives about children. The inventory evaluates beliefs about children in four sub-dimensions: "bad child (negative beliefs about the child)", "incompetent child", "glorified child" and "participatory child (positive belief in the nature of the child)". In this study in the basic research design, 673 samples were studied in the process of defining the scale structures and 300 samples were studied in the verification of the defined structure. Explanatory factor analysis based on tetrachoric correlation analysis was performed for construct validity within the scope of validity and reliability studies of the tool. Confirmatory factor analysis was performed for cross-validation. KR-20 reliability was calculated for the reliability estimates of the subscales in both samples. When the eigenvalues ??of the subscales are examined, it is seen that all the scales are in a single factor structure and explain at least 30% of the variance. 4 items with low factor load from the negative view about the child subscale and 1 item from the incompetent child subscale were removed from the tool. When the goodness of fit index values ??in confirmatory factor analysis for each subscale were examined, it was found that some of the χ2/ (df), RMSEA, TLI/NNFI, CFI, NFI, AGFI and GFI values ??had an acceptable fit index and some had a perfect fit index value is seen. It is seen that the reliability coefficients calculated for both samples are at a high level. It is thought that the tool consisting of four sub-scales developed to evaluate adults' perspectives on children will contribute to the field as a valid and reliable tool that can evaluate the perspective of children in all sample groups over the age of 18. It can be recommended that this tool may be adapted to assess beliefs about the child of children and youth between the ages of 4-18. Furthermore, it is suggested to determine the variables affecting adults' beliefs about children by employing structural equation modeling.
