SOCIAL INTEGRATION AND SPORT: A CASE STUDY OF SYRIAN REFUGEE CHILDREN

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of sports on the social integration of Syrian refugee children. Working group; Within the scope of the drip project in Şırnak province, 182 individuals (79 women, 103 men) participated in sports activities in youth centers and were included in the study by disproportionate sampling method. As a data collection tool in the research; The “Social Integration Scale in Sports (SSDS)” developed by Yılmaz et al. (2007) was used. As a statistical method in the evaluation of data; descriptive statistics, t-test for independent groups, one-way analysis of variance (Anova) and Tukey multiple comparison test to reveal the difference between groups were used. When the participants' Social Integration in Sports sub-dimensions are examined; It was determined that they had the highest arithmetic mean in the "physical benefit" sub-dimension and the lowest in the "moral development" sub-dimension. When the sub-dimensions of Social Integration in Sports were examined according to the gender variable, no statistically significant difference was found. According to the sport branch variable, there is a significant difference in the sub-dimensions of socialization, integration, psychological development and moral development. As a result of the Tukey Post-hoc analysis performed to determine which groups the difference originated from, it was determined that there was a difference between the participants in the socialization sub-dimension, whose sports branches were volleyball, football and individual. Again, when examined according to education level; There is a statistically significant difference in the sub-dimensions of personal development, socialization, integration, psychological development and moral development among the sub-dimensions of Social Integration in Sports. When examining which group the difference originates from, it has been determined that the arithmetic mean of those with primary and secondary education is higher than the arithmetic mean of those with high school education. As a result of the research; While the social integration status of the participants differed significantly according to the variables of education level, age, mother's education, father's education, and sports branch, it was determined that gender was not effective in social integration.
