In the changing world order, social institutions have undergone various changes in the face of the necessities of the age. It is extremely important that educational institutions, which have a fundamental role in shaping the future of countries, should also keep up with the changes in line with the requirements of the age. It can be stated that this necessity results from the key position of educational institutions in raising individuals. In this context, it is also extremely essential for teachers, who are at the center of educational activities in educational institutions, to comply with the changes. The study aims to examine the opinions of social studies teacher candidates on the concept of innovative learning. The study group of the research was determined through purposive sampling method and it consists of teacher candidates studying at Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University, Faculty of Education, Social Studies Education Department in the 2020-2021 academic year. In this sense, teacher candidates who were studying at the 4th grade and who took the teaching practice course were included in the study on a voluntary basis. A semi-structured interview was used as the data collection tool in the research. Interviews were held online due to pandemic conditions. The case study model, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the research. Case study is regarded as a distinctive approach used in seeking answers to scientific questions. Contrary to the teacher candidates’ claims that they had the knowledge of innovative learning, the result of the research showed that they were not knowledgeable about innovative learning. They confused innovative learning with the concept of constructivist learning and answered the questions accordingly. Teacher candidates stated that innovative learning practices were not used in the undergraduate education process, but they would include innovative learning practices in the teaching process in case of appropriate conditions when they started the profession.
