THE PREDICTIVE ROLE OF NARCISSISM AND SELF-ESTEEM ON SOCIAL MEDIA ADDICTION
Social media has become an increasingly popular leisure activity over the last decade. Although most people’s social media use is non-problematic, a small number of users appear to engage in social media excessively and/or compulsively. It can be said that the determination of this situation is important when considering the problems caused by social media addiction. In this study, the relationship between social media addiction and self-esteem, narcissism were studied to investigate. The research group of the study composed of 520 students attending at the vocational school a government university. Data collection instruments were Social Media Addiction Scale - Adult Form (Şahin and Yağcı, 2017), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (Rosenberg, 1965; Çuhadaroğlu, 1986) and Narcissistic Personality Inventory (Ames et al., 2006; Atay, 2009). Since the data showed normal distribution (p>.05), multiple regression analysis, Pearson Product-Moment Correlation analysis tests and descriptive statistics were implemented in the data analysis process. The results of analyze showed that social media addiction have a significant relationship in negative with self-esteem, but there is a positive relationship between social media addiction and narcissism.
