THE VIEWS OF SCHOOL PRINCIPALS ON THE PRACTICES OF VALUE EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS: A CASE STUDY
The aim of this study is to reveal school principals’ views on the practices of value education. The research was designed in case study model – a qualitative research method. The research was conducted with the participation of 15 school principals who work at public schools under the supervision of Ministryof Education in the province of Aydın. The target population of the research was determined by means of convenience sampling method. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews as required by qualitative research methodology. The results were classified under three headings, or themes, which are ‘Values that matter’, ‘Integrating values into education’ and ‘Suggestions.’ The results, when analyzed according to these three themes, indicate that the school principals place special emphasis on love and respect, rely on teachers’ adequacy for the practices of values education, and suggest that values education should be included in faculty of education curricula for a more efficient value education practice. The suggestions stated in this research are based on the abovementioned results.
