Abstract

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS’ LOCUS OF CONTROL AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP LEVELS: EXAMPLE OF GAZIOSMANPAŞA UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF ECONOMICS AND ADMINISTRATIVE SCIENCES
The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between the faculty of economics and administrative sciences students’ locus of control and their entrepreneurship tendencies. In this study, using relational screening model, participants were composed of a total of 520 students studying at the department of Business Administration, Economics, Public Administration, and Public Finance. The data of the study were obtained using Rotter’s “Internal-External Locus of Control Scale”, which was adopted into Turkish by Dağ (1991), and “University Students’ Entrepreneurship Scale”, which was developed by Yılmaz and Sünbül (2009). The relationships between variables were estimated using correlation and multiple regression analyses. As a result of the analyses, it was found that locus of control and entrepreneurship variables didn’t differ in terms of gender. A significant positive correlation between internal locus of control and entrepreneurship tendency was determined. Moreover, a positive but weak correlation between external locus of control and entrepreneurship tendency was found. According to results of multiple regression analysis, internal locus of control is a significant predictor of entrepreneurship tendency. These findings shows that internal locus of control has a positive effect on students’ entrepreneurship tendencies. As a result of the study, some suggestions about how to ensure internal locus of control on students were made.
