In the academic year 2012-2013, the sixth grade students from Salih Erkan Primary School which is in the center of Erzincan has attended this study. The research is designed according to pre-test/post-test control group test design which is one of the experimental design. The education during the unit is made with the activities adabted through eight types of graphic organizers for experimental group but for the control group traditional methods are used. Experimental method has continued for six weeks. Graphic organizers prepared as parallel to the subjects of lesson and original to the content of lesson by researcher are presented to experimental group. The groups are balanced considering the pre-test results of the Social Studies Achievement Test and Achievement Goal Orientations Scales (AGOS). It is determined that according to post test points in means of academical achievement levels, experimental group is more successful than control group. When it is evaluated in terms of achievement goal orientations, it is determined that the achievement goal orientations scale post test points of the students from experimental grup are higher than the points of the students from control group. Consequently, the use of eight types of the graphic organizers in social studies lesson is positively effective for the learners’achievement gol orientations increase.
