Summary
There have been significant changes in many areas with the industrial revolution in the world. One of these changes is related to the use of natural resources. Nevertheless, the fact that earth’s resources are limited has begun to be accepted globally, especially since the second half of the 20th century. Thus, more consumption of natural resources has become the matter of fact through the effect of industrialization and developments in information and communication technologies since the last half century. In addition, the concepts of sustainability and sustainable development have been among the most emphasized concepts due to the rising pressure of the increasing population on resources, especially in the last two centuries. In the face of excessive and unconscious use of natural resources, possible solutions and plannings for the sustainable use of these resources have started to be more discussed in recent years. Various initiatives are still ongoing in this regard. The necessity of ensuring the continuity and effective use of natural resources has led to the emergence of the idea of sustainable development. In the literature, it is noteworthy that the concept of sustainability has been used in the meanings of continuation, existence and pursuance. Sustainable development, in its most general definition, is expressed as meeting the needs of today's humanity without compromising the survival rights of future generations. As sustainability and sustainable development are in the field of interest of many disciplines, these are also among the most important topics of geography, which examines the relationship between natural and human elements. In this research, therefore, the importance and need of an effective geography education in the processes of planning, problem solving and decision-making processes regarding the sustainability and sustainable development. In this context, the research reveals the relationship between sustainable development-sustainable development goals and geography education from a geographical perspective. In the research, the relationship between sustainability and the aims of geography education is studied by using the document analysis method. According to the research’s findings, the correlation between the sustainable development goals and the goals of geography education is clearly emphasized.

Abstract
Dünyada sanayi devrimiyle birlikte pek çok alanda önemli değişimler yaşanmıştır. Bu değişimlerden biri de doğal kaynakların kullanımına ilişkindir. Ancak dünyanın sahip olduğu kaynakların sınırlı olduğu gerçeği özellikle 20. yüzyılın ikinci yarısından itibaren küresel çapta kabul görmeye başlamıştır. Böylece son yarım asırdan beri sanayileşme ve bilgi iletişim teknolojilerindeki gelişmelerin de etkisiyle doğal kaynakların daha çok tüketimi söz konusu olmaya başlamıştır. Ayrıca özellikle son iki yüzyıldır artan nüfusun kaynaklar üzerindeki baskısının her geçen gün artmasıyla birlikte sürdürülebilirlik ve sürdürülebilir kalkınma kavramları üzerinde en çok durulan kavramlar arasında yer almıştır. Doğal kaynakların aşırı ve bilinçsiz kullanımı karşısında bu kaynakların sürdürülebilir kullanımına yönelik olası çözüm ve planlamalar son yıllarda daha çok tartışılmaya başlanmıştır. Bu konuda çok çeşitli girişimler halen sürmektedir. Doğal kaynakların sürekliliğinin sağlanması ve etkili kullanılması gerekliliği sürdürülebilir kalkınma fikrinin doğmasına neden olmuştur. Literatürde sürdürülebilirlik, devam etme, var etme ve sürdürme gibi anlamlarda kullanıldığı dikkati çekmektedir. Sürdürülebilir kalkınma ise en genel tanımıyla gelecek nesillerin hayatta kalma haklarının ellerinden almadan günümüz insanlığının gereksinimlerini karşılayabilme olarak ifade edilmektedir. Sürdürülebilirlik ve sürdürülebilir kalkınma birçok bilim dalının ilgi alanına girdiği gibi doğal ve beşeri unsurlar arasındaki ilişkiyi inceleyen coğrafyanın da en önemli konuları arasında yer almaktadır. Belirtilenlerden hareketle bu araştırmada sürdürülebilirlik ve sürdürülebilir kalkınma konusuna yönelik planlama yapma, problem çözme ve karar verme süreçlerinde etkin bir coğrafya eğitiminin önemi ve gereği üzerinde durulmuştur. Bu kapsamda araştırma, sürdürülebilir kalkınma-sürdürülebilir kalkınma amaçları ve coğrafya eğitimi ilişkisini coğrafi bakış açısı ile ortaya koymaktadır. Araştırmada doküman analizi yöntemi kullanılarak sürdürülebilirlik ile coğrafya eğitimi amaçları ilişkisi irdelenmiştir. Elde edilen verilere göre sürdürülebilir kalkınma amaçları ve coğrafya eğitiminin amaçları arasındaki ilişki açıkça vurgulanmıştır.
