Abstract


THE ANALYSIS OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS AND PARENTS IN TERMS OF PARTIES: A QUANTITIVE ANALYSIS
The quality of the interaction between the young and their parents is significant in terms of both sides. Building this relationship on a solid ground changes depending on the quality of communication process and on mutual expectations. In particular, parents and the young experince this process and its consequences, positive sides and challenges all together. Therefore, in this study, it is aimed to analyze the relationship between the university students and their parents from the viewpoint of these young people. In the study, basic qualitative research method has been used and 45 people in total, 15 are university students and the rest is their parents, have been interviewed. As a result of the data analysis, five main themes have been determined: The expectations of parents and children from each other, the cases in which mutual communication is easy, the cases in which mutual communication is hard, the parents’ behaviours which are taken example or criticized by the young and parents’ views regarding the generation gap. Moreover, at the end of the study, it has been found that the expectations of parents and children show differences while the cases in which communicating reciprocally is hard show similarities.
