Abstract


A CASE STUDY ON HOME SCHOOLING PRACTICES IN TURKEY: THEORY AND APPLICATIONS IN SPECIAL EDUCATION
This research was aimed to determine the opinions of the parents whose children have education at home. These opinions included their supporting, problems, contributions and, suggestions on home schooling. This is a descriptive research and a case study in which qualitative data collection techniques are used. The study group was determined with the homogenous sampling method which is one of purposeful sampling methods. The study group was created from Pursaklar secondary school and 13 student’s parents (5 male, 8 female) whose children have education at home in Ankara in 2013-2014 academic years. As the data collection tool, the semi-structured interview form was used. The qualitative data was analyzed by frequency analysis which is the content analysis method. According to the research results, the parents have the positive perceptions about home schooling practices. Moreover, while they believe that the practices are contributed their children's developments, they have some problems about the teachers and the teaching and learning materials at home schooling.
