Abstract


TEACHING METHODS USED BY MUSIC TEACHERS WORKING IN AMATEUR CHORUS (HATAY PROVINCE EXAMPLE)

This research is a descriptive study in which qualitative research methods are used to determine the teaching methods used by amateur choir music teachers in Hatay province, based on teacher opinions. In order to reach information about the research subject, literature review and "standardized open-ended interview" techniques were used to provide a realistic and holistic approach to the environment or events that are the subject of the research. In the research, the data were obtained by applying a personal information form and a semi-structured interview form consisting of 16 open-ended questions. The data obtained in the interview forms were transformed into tables by descriptive analysis and content analysis. As a result of the interpretation of the findings, it was determined that the music teachers who employ amateur choirs use demonstration, micro-teaching, group work, analogy and case study methods in their choir studies. Also Orff, Kodally, Dalcroze etc. It has been determined that special teaching methods are not given enough place, that a planned and suitable teaching method is not selected, that  the chorist problems  in song teaching, and that only one-way exercises such as voice or only breathing exercises are included before starting the choir studies. Music teachers who employ amateur choirs should benefit from music teaching approaches such as “Orff, Kodaly, Dalcroze” that are suitable for the development of children, especially in choirs with developmental students or members, participate in activities and trainings aimed at improving themselves for these approaches, choir members actually come together for a hobby. Although it is composed of individuals, it is aimed to make planning by taking into consideration the teaching methods and approaches in terms of teaching and gaining the basic dynamics of music while having a pleasant time, and to continue the studies in line with this plan, to increase the variety of preparatory work done before starting the choir studies, to warm up the body, It has been suggested that exercises such as exercise, breathing exercise, articulation exercises can be used together in a certain method.
