Abstract


STUDENT LEADERSHIP PRACTICES INVENTORY: ADAPTATION FOR TURKISH CULTURE, LANGUAGE VALIDITY AND EXAMINATION OF FACTOR ANALYSIS
Leadership is an art for affecting people. It is known that leadership has indisputable effects not only on work life, human relations, society and future of people but also on academic success and all subjects that relates to school. In other words leadership not only shows itself in work life but also studentship life. In addition, leader student education or student leadership programmes become prominent in the world and our country. In this study, the concept of student leadership, features and programmes have been tried to explain. The aim this research is to examine the adaptation of Student Leadership Practices Inventory to Turkish culture which was developed by Kouzes and Posner (2006) to measure the leadership practices of university students. The sample of the study consisted of 230 university students studying in the school of foreign languages at Suleyman Demirel University in 2011-2012 academic year who were selected through purposeful sampling. Turkish Form of Student Leadership Practices Inventory was conducted to the university students and the data obtained were interpreted. Reliability test for examining the consruct validity and confirmatory factor analysis for testing model conformity were made. Beside that internal consistency parameters of the scale was .914, it was understood that this scale was reliable. In the results of confirmatory factor analysis the value of RMSEA’s being .073 proved the model conformity.. The analyses done with the data obtained revealed the result that this scale can be performed on Turkish culture, used and that benefit can be taken from this scale.
