Abstract

AN INDEX: MUSIC IN MURAD-NÂME
Murâd-Nâme is a literary work penned in verse about Kâbus-nâme by Bedr-i Dilşad in 830/1427. It is an encyclopedic work written in mat_h_nawi form and consists of fifty one chapters. It was dedicated to Sultan II. Murad. Although Murâd-Nâme is widely known as a translation of Kâbus-Nâme, it is actually like a commentary of it. Many chapters were added and the existing ones were extended. If we are to evaluate Murâd-Nâme in terms of literary style, it can be defined as a work with; high aesthetics senses, poetical language of high quality and appropriate use of language. The content of the Murâd-Nâme shows close connections with many disciplines of science and art of the time such as: medicine, astrology, astronomy, poetry, religious sciences and music. Chapter of music is among the extended chapters of Murâd-Nâme and it is more like a reminding index for those knowledgeable on the subject rather than being a chapter providing well-established information on music on its own. In this study; it is tried to be explained that Murâd-Nâme written by Bedr-i Dilşad is an index and this idea is supported by giving extracts from Risale-i Musiki which is one of the most important Works of XV. Century written in Turkish by Kırşehirli Yusuf İbn Nizameddin. As a result: Murâd-Nâme penned in verse form by Bedr-i Dilşad is one of the important books of XV. Century. This study, limited to the extents of an article, will be a source for the research to be carried out in this regard.
