Abstract


A STUDY ON DEFINING SMART PHONE ADDICTION LEVEL OF PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS OF CEIT
With the technological developments, computers, internet, cell phones and and finally smart phones have become the essential elements of daily life. Thus, mobile devices have started to affect our lives considerably in the last years. While they affect our lives considerably, they lead to some addictions. This study was carried out in order to determine smart phone addiction levels of prospective teachers (students) studying at Computer Education and Instructional Technologies (CEIT) Department. In the study which aimed to identify smart phone addiction levels of prospective teachers at CEIT Department at Ahi Evran University, different variables were examined. The students of CEIT Department at Education Faculty of Ahi Evran University consist of 180 students (102 females, 78 males). Data was gathered by using a six-point likert type scale which included 10 items and was developed by Noyan and his friends in order to evaluate adolescents’ risk of smart phone addiction. Frequencies, percentages, t test and Anova were used to analyze the data. According to the results, the items having the highest average were “I use my smart phone for a longer time than I plan”and “I can’t stand absence of my smart phone”. On the other hand, the item having the lowest average was “I feel pain in my wrist or on my nape beacause of smart phone usage”. There was not a significant difference between the smart phone addiction levels in terms of gender, grade and level of income. However, there was a significant difference between the students living in Central Anatolia Region and the students living in Mediterranean Region.
